How Important is Your Education?

Good Day Bloggers,

Today's posting asks you a simple question, how important is your education?  If you were to ask the teen activist, Malala Yousafzai, she would tell you, "important enough to take a bullet to the head".  Whoa, back up a minute...a bullet to the head?  That's right, in 2012, Malala survived being shot by terrorists for speaking out for girls’ right to be educated in her native country (Pakistan).  Read the quote from Malala, who began advocating for a female's right to education in 2009.

“The terrorists thought that they would change my aims and stop my ambitions,” she said in a speech to the United Nations last year, “but nothing changed in my life except this: weakness, fear, and hopelessness died, strength, power, and courage were born.”

Yesterday,  (10/10/2014), Malala became the youngest person to ever receive the Nobel Peace Prize.  She is being recognized for her global activism on education.  Click on the following link to hear Malala accept her award. http://nyti.ms/1oYbFK7

Please come back and read the story and post your answers to the questions below:

1.  According to Malala, why is education so important to girls in Pakistan?

2.  How important is education to you?

Losing Loved Ones...A Wonderful Tribute to Jean & Chris

"Volatile Irene, Most-But Not All-Escape Wrath"

"After threatening the mid-Atlantic for days and prompting mass evacuations, Hurricane Irene struck Delaware and its neighbors only a glancing blow, leaving it bound for the record book as the storm that, "could have been 'The Big One.'"... Saturday night into Sunday morning, Irene's center passed less than 10 miles east of Fenwick Island and Ocean City, Md, and rumbled ashore along New Jersey's barrier islands hours later.  It was Delaware's closest brush ever with the eye of a hurricane, and only the third to have crossed into the Garden State." (The Wilmington News Journal, August 29, 2011)

Tragically, two of my sons closest friends lost their lives during Hurricane Irene.  Delaware's Governor, Jack Markell commented on the deaths of these two men:

"While we had hoped and prayed our state would get through this dangerous hurricane without the loss of life, we now know that is not the case.  I offer my condolences to the families and friends of Christopher Valentine and Jean Baptista, as I know this will be a time of great difficulty for their families and those close to them." (The Wilmington News Journal, September 2, 2011)

Have you ever lost someone you loved in a natural disaster?

According to The Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED) , The Annual Disaster Statistical Review 2012 (http://reliefweb.int/sites/reliefweb.int/files/resources/ADSR_2012.pdf)  over the last decade, China, the United States, the Philippines, India and Indonesia constitute together the top 5 countries that are most frequently hit by natural disasters.  The Centre has been active for more than 35 years in the fields of international disaster and conflict health studies, with research and training activities linking relief, rehabilitation and development.  The Centre promotes research and provides an evidence base to the international community on the burden of disease and related health issues due to disasters and conflicts, in order to improve preparedness and responses to these humanitarian emergencies.

In order to cope with this terrible tragedy, family and friends of Jean & Chris created this wonderful tribute~ watch, remember, and add your thoughts and tributes for these wonderful, young men.

How To Click and Clean Your Online Profile

Hello all...anyone who knows me, knows that I spend way too much time trying to become a computer geek, as a result, I have become just that...a big geek...however, one thing I have discovered with all of my skyping, twittering, facebooking, musing, etc., etc., is that as wonderful as all of this technology is....it also can be very dangerous and detrimental to your reputation if not used in the utmost safest way. Therefore, I have included a link http://www.rd.com/advice-and-know-how/dangers-of-social-networks/article54448.html to a great article I found in Reader's Digest called "Click and Clean Your Online Profile" by Andy Simmons. It is long, and you do have to click through some advertisements and distractions, but believe me it is definitely worth reading and even worth saving the" clean-up sites" the author has included in the article. After you are done reading, I'd love to hear what you think about the article, so please readers....leave a comment and as always....BLOG ON!!!!!!!!
